Our Lovely Easter Weekend

This weekend it was just my brother, Garrett and me who headed home for Easter. My parents were out of town and my poor sister was stuck at law school. Despite the small group, we still had a nice weekend.

Before my mother left, she put out some cute Easter Decor to welcome us all home.

She also set aside some Easter Egg Hunt goodies for me to surprise my brother with on Sunday morning. Who says an 18 year old can't enjoy a good old fashioned egg hunt?

Someone was very interested in what I was doing while filling the Easter Eggs....

...which meant that all the eggs were hidden shoulder height and up.

There were also some sweet little goodie bags tucked away in the dining room for us to enjoy. We may or may not have gotten into those on Friday night. Who can resist chocolate bunnies? My sweet mama gave me an herb garden kit too, because she knows the real way to my heart is through gourmet cooking ingredients!

While the egg hunt was going on, I roasted a couple of chickens for us to enjoy for our own little Easter Sunday lunch.

It looks like a pretty sad Easter feast, but it was good - roast chicken, potatoes, gravy, veggies and fresh biscuits. We were all stuffed but we still managed to head out of the house to catch the new American Reunion at the local theater. It was funny and so awkward, but still a nice trip down memory lane. I remember seeing the first one in high school!

I should back track and mention that we didn't spend the whole weekend hanging around the house. On Sunday night we headed over to Garrett's parents' home for a lovely Sunday night dinner (prime rib and turkey and pork tenderloin. So much good food!).

And on Friday night we headed over to my uncle's house for a Good Friday dinner with all these crazies. It was a great chance to catch up with all of them for the first time since Christmas.

My aunt had the place all dressed up with flowers everywhere.

This is my favourite room in their house, the big front sunroom. Any time I've housesitted for them, this is where you'll find me. Parked with a good book and big fluffy blanket.

My Nana's dog Jack thought it was a good spot too. Perfect for squirrel hunting.

Its also nice for enjoying sunbeams.

For dinner, they served up a big BBQ spread, complete with one of my aunt's great big salads. How awesome if that bowl?

They picked up steaks, sausages and bacon mushroom burgers from a butcher shop at the St. Lawrence Market. If you're ever in Toronto you need to check out this market. National Geographic just ranked it as the world's number one food market in their book "Food Journeys of a Lifetime".

There was also delicious parmesan asparagus and tasty roasted sweet potatoes (the one pieces are white organize sweet potatoes. Never even heard of that before!). My Nana brought carrot cake and chocolate cake, so you know I had to try them both!

All-in-all it was a great Easter weekend spent with family and friends...and chocolate. Lots of chocolate.
