Headed to an Island Wedding

New Years 2011
We're off to an island wedding today! No, I'm not talking about some tropical getaway (although that would be nice). We're heading to the Toronto Islands for the wedding of our good friends Eve & Mat.

Back in my Queen's University days, Eve and I were in the same program together, but didn't socialize much out of class.

But after graduation, we both moved to Toronto and quickly became friends.

We've gone on road trips together...

...done many an exercise class...

...danced the night away at film festival parties...

...battled it out at games night...

And now I consider her one of my dearest friends.

A couple of weeks ago, I headed to her family's cottage for a Bachlorette weekend. I was expecting some rustic old cottage like most of the ones I've been to, so it was a pleasant surprise when I drove up late on Friday night and saw that their cottage is really a beautiful summer home in Tudor style.

With my obsession for architectural details, I spend lots of time wandering around the house in awe of all the little details. Every doorknob was like this!

As nice as the house is inside, it is really the view that was killer. From the dining room porch, you look right out over the lake.

When the rain quieted down for a bit in the morning, we headed out for a hike through some nearby trails.

We followed fresh deer tracks for a while.

Beautiful flowers everywhere.

Despite the rain keep us indoors most of the weekend, we had an awesome time spent with some amazing ladies. Our sides were sore by the end of it from laughing so much. I love getogethers like that.

We played some interesting (and very quirky) boardgames.

...and what's a late afternoon boardgame session without a little wine, right?

We cracked open a bottle of this Bear Flag Red Wine Blend from California. I have to admit that I bought it soley because I loved the label. Isn't it great? Thankfully the wine was pretty good too.

And of course a little bit of wine helped us getting into the evening's planned activities. Let's just say that what's happens at the cottage, stays at the cottage (like Vegas but without the white tigers and neon lights).

It seemed like the wedding was still so far away after that weekend, but now it's here!

Some you may have caught this on Instagram last night (@smallhomebigstart), but my mom and I were up late working on the centrepieces for the wedding, using all these various flowers we got. I can't wait to share the final results with you later this week!
