A Simple Summer Wreath

After getting the porch all fixed up last month and planting some flowers, our apartment was looking much better, but it still could use a little more colour.

I took 10 minutes on Sunday morning and put together this little project to spruce the place up a bit.

I've never hung up a wreath in the summer (just in the fall or for Christmas), but I was surprised at how much I loved having a little bit of colour to greet you at the door. It helped that it was super quick to make and inexpensive - always a winning combination!

It all started with this wreath that I found at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago for $2.50. I had originally bought it with the idea of putting it away until the fall to make a wreath then, but the more I looked at it, the stripped grape vine looked like driftwood. And that's summery, right?

A quick trip to the dollar store to pick up some fake flowers and I had everything I needed to make a wreath. I chose a bunch that mixed purple daisies with heather, to give the wreath a little variety, but without having to buy lots of fake flowers.

I took apart all the branches into little clusters of flowers and started winding them under the wrapped grape vine. I could have used some hot glue to keep it in place, but the pieces seemed to stick inbetween the vines with no problems. One side was noticeably thinner than the other, so I decided to put the flowers on that side and cover it up.

After making a loop out of yellow ribbon I had in the gift wrapping bin, I was ready to hang this up on the window. Thankfully I still had the nail in the doorframe from the Christmas wreath!

The bright purples were the perfect way to add a little punch of colour to the porch.

Not too bad for a 10 minute project I did on a Sunday morning! I love coming home to see it on the door. Wreaths are always a nice way to welcome people home :)

And the nice part is that it was really inexpensive too:

Grape Vine Wreath - $2.50 (Yard Sale)
Daisy & Heather Flower Picks - $3.75 (Dollar Store)
Yellow Ribbon - Free (Leftover from a present)

TOTAL: $6.25

Plus by not using the hot glue on the wreath, I still can use it for other seasons. I want to start scoping out some ideas on Pinterest already!!!
