Bonfire Banana Boats

I hope that all my fellow Canadians had an awesome Canada Day weekend! We were lucky enough to spend the weekend at a friends cottage and I'll share more on that later this week, but first I had to share this awesome bonfire treat that my friend Amy brought to the cottage.

Bonfire Banana Boats!!!

The great thing about these goodies is that you can fill them up with whatever you like - chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, marshmallows, coconut, caramel sauce, etc.

Take a ripe banana and slice two vertical lines and then a small line at the top connecting the two lines. This will make a little flap.

Using a spoon, scoop out a little of the inside to make room for all the toppings.

Sprinkle in chocolate chips.

Top with marshmallows.

Pull the flap back up and press the it all together again.

Wrap in tin foil.

Toss onto the hot embers of the fire for 5-10 minutes, turning once.

Using tongs, carefully remove from the fire.

Use a spoon to scoop out all the warm chocolate covered banana! I didn't seal my properly and some of the marshmallow melted out, but it still tasted great.

You can also do this in the oven, by popping them in for 10 minutes at 350°F.

Thanks Amy for sharing this! Now I have a new bonfire treat to be addicted to this summer :)

For all my American friends celebrating the 4th of July tomorrow, these would be a great thing to do at your own backyard BBQs!
